A House United Will Stand
Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 10:34AM Do not be surprised
If you fall back into the old ways every day.
Do not be disheartened
But resolve to do something positive,
And without question,
That angel who stands guard over you
Will honor your perseverance.
John Klimakos
I have a dear friend who is always looking for the mistakes. I have a friend who makes rash decisions based on perception of mistakes. I have a friend who will not fear dividing others to state an opinion on a mistake. I have a friend who does not understand the journey.
There are many mistakes that can be made along the way. Most can be resolved and chalked up to being simply mistakes. Even if someone repeats what was once a mistake, he can still resolve to get back up and walk with the Lord. Perseverance is indeed how we finally stop falling and remain standing.
My friend does not understand the journey nor mistakes. Along the journey you and others will most likely make mistakes. These are easily fixed by something positive. Most will not change eternity – mistakes are mistakes.
What will affect eternity is disunity caused by one who does something negative when others make mistakes. This divides the body – the Proverbs are true. What is negative you ask? Anything that is not specifically Biblical is negative in light of Christ. We must apply this perseverance to do something positive – not just when we err – but, as well, when other leaders err.
In other words, one thing that leaders must be able to do well to be leaders is to persevere in keeping unity among the followers, especially when the body or other leaders are challenged by a mistake. The mistakes will pass but a house divided will not stand.
