Recharge!
Monday, March 6, 2006 at 08:57AM If you are tired and worn out
By your labors for your Lord,
Place your head upon his knee and rest awhile.
Recline upon his breast,
Breathe in the fragrant spirit of life,
And allow life to permeate your being.
Rest upon him, for he is a table of refreshment
That will serve you the food of the divine Father.
John of Dalyutha
It cannot be said enough, “His yoke is easy and His burden is light.” Jesus did not come into the world to load us with tasks beyond measure and weight. He, too, went off to rest.
We, spiritual leaders, need not forget that what we do is spiritual. We need not to forget our message – that life, all life, comes from God. We need not to forget, that which we call others to – spending time with the Father.
There is nothing so mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually exhausting as spiritual leadership. Each day is a battle fought on the field of high emotion, the stakes of life or death, and eternal truth. If done well with compassion and passion, spiritual leadership will wear you out like nothing else.
Go for a walk today – and don’t take your phone. Stop thinking and just rest. If you cannot get the “lists in your mind to stop”, then take a pad and write each new item down so you won’t forget it. Then go back to rest. We cannot teach others to rest until we rest ourselves.
Do you have trouble with stopping and resting – listening to the heart of God and breathing in life? If you would like a few ideas, send me a note at doug.burrier@leaderdriven.org.
