Food for Success
Thursday, March 9, 2006 at 08:12AM A tree will never blossom without water.
Without mystical knowledge
The heart will never rise on high.
Evagrios of Pontus
A tree can drink water but it cannot supply water. The tree cannot choose to be near a flowing stream. How many trees die because, as seeds, each was scattered where there was no sufficient water? The tree cannot create water. The tree can only drink in the water that is supplied.
As leaders, we often think that we have “hung the stars and the moon” when, alas, it is only by the grace of God and the wisdom of those who have gone before us that we are leaders at all. Even when we have that one great idea, it is predicated upon the water that we cannot supply. We cannot make our minds work. We cannot gift ourselves the needs to be a leader. We merely drink in leadership and grow because it was available to us.
It is okay to be business-like, to be a leader, to use the gift you have been given but at the same time to realize, it is mystical knowledge that makes you a leader. The capability to process the knowledge and the knowledge itself comes from a mystical source. We have an advantage over the tree, though, we can see the source of our water. It is God. The spiritual leader should be a master of the Bible – it is the stream of water from which we drink and we should drink deep.
When is the last time, Christian Leader, that you read the Word front to back? If we do not drink spiritual water, we will not blossom as spiritual leaders.
