Guilty or Free to Leave?
Friday, April 14, 2006 at 07:52AM I believe that the feeling of guilt
is the result of conviction
not dealt with.

How many miserably unhappy people do we lead? How many of them are simply miserable because of guilt and shame? The wise leader knows the answer is, “Most.”
Is there a Way to release them from and free them from guilt? Certainly, they would find freedom if they could just let it go and move on. Certainly, the past is the past and there is nothing one can do about it. Certainly, the only possible solution to that which we are guilty of yesterday is our different actions today.
As wise leaders, spiritual leaders, we should seek not so much to become long term counselors to those around us but to be ones who provide freedom by pointing them to the Freedom Trail and giving them food for the journey. Encouragement is good but wasted on the guilty. Freedom is found in reconciling the past and the only way to reconcile a wrong is with the willing forgiveness and love of the one offended. Followers can find this love and forgiveness in Christ.
Followers must realize that the proper response to conviction is change and that change nullifies guilt.
We can show them this Way but only if we walk in this Way first and deal with our convictions.
