Puplit Sales
Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 08:19AM These leadership articles are posted Monday through Friday before 10 am. We apologize any inconvenience with the lack of articles being posted on Thursday and Friday of last week. The staff experienced difficulties in releasing the articles on time.
Only a foolish pastor
Will turn his pulpit into a sales counter, and
Only a misguided member
Will risk and lose real relationships
To “make a buck.”
Such behavior causes uncomfortable and
Inappropriate relationships to be developed.
The next time the member or pastor calls,
The question might be
“What is he calling to sell me on this time?”

Leaders need to keep their eyes on the ball. What is it that we came here to do? Did we come to run a company or sell our daughter’s cookies? Did we drive today to bless the people or did we come to sell Christmas Cards?
Great companies make simple policies against such sales because the wisdom of time alone has taught them. How unfortunate that anyone should have to legislate such basic morality, ethics and wisdom to one who calls himself a leader!
Worse still is the spiritual leader who sells to those they lead. Intimacy is destroyed and closeness fractured when one must say, “No” to a leader. Jesus did not have much money but He did not sell anything to anyone. Paul made tents when only a hint of discomfort (even though wrong on the people’s part) was shown by some people to whom he preached.
Leaders give – not take. We should be careful to apply this in every area not just the area of sales. It is a horrible day when the people want to run and hide from their leaders.
