2004 Scott Seed
Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 04:47PM A couple of years prior to 2004, Scott took a sabbatical from his position as an Elder at Northwest Church. Sabatticals are provided on an "as needed" basis so that Elders can refresh, be renewed and hear from God. Scott had a sense that he needed to be more intimate with God’s Words in the Bible.
His sabbatical was short and he came back different than ever before. He was already a great leader, a true fellow in ministry and you always knew what to expect. Now Scott had a deeper wisdom and a surety about himself. He is still a man of few words. Those words are incredible.
He reads the agendas and finds Scripture. Recently, I was joking about Scott’s bathroom. I was at a party and Scott and Susan’s bathroom is the one to use if you are an adult. So I headed back and found a lack of reading material – none of the previously installed catalogues that were there at the last annual party. I wandered out to give him a hard time about not maintaining a guy friendly bathroom.
“You aren’t a man. There is no reading material in that bathroom. Where are the magazines?” I teased loudly – the other guys laughed.
“You didn’t see the Bible by the john – that’s all I read in there” Scott replied.
Incredible. His secret is laying the foundation of his life in His Word. Scott is a dear friend. He wrestles with life and frustrations like the rest of us but he has a depth that comes only from being wise. He thinks about God and reads about God.
Though we served together in successful ministry after ministry and though I had long seen his consistency and solid character, Scott has moved to a new and incredible place. You know what is interesting? His incredible life is being invested in me and many others. I am glad Scott took time to get intimate with God’s Word.
