The Insane Don't Know It...

"I'm crazy...I am going nuts...I am just sure of it..."

Not true!  That statement is actually one of the most sane and rational comments that one can say.  The truly insane don't know that they are insane neither do they think they are insane or know that you are insane.  Insanity is not a topic of discussion for the untreated insane.

Wondering if  you are going nuts means that you have a "compass" to which you are comparing your path.  Comparing, analyzing and evaluating your path against a compass is a very rational process.  In fact, one of the greatest truths is that truth is bigger than you, beyond you and outside of you.  We are truly on the right path when we find the Truth that is objective,  unwavering and not dependent on us and follow that Truth.

Questioning your sanity is also another very sane process.  Questioning takes a moment of rational thought.  Rationalizing is good, especially in highly emotional times.  Rationalizing helps find a stable point of reference and helps us process our environment in the same way that a sea-sick passenger can find relief by focusing on a fixed point far off on the horizon away from the waves in which he rocks.

Recently, a new friend to our church commented, "You guys  have something so great here that we are afraid that we might mess it up."  "That is highly unlikely," I replied, "because you are aware that you could mess it up and care about that fact.  It is those who think they are going to be the savior to our church or who never even think about whether they could mess it up that will most likely mess it up."

Hmmmm...which ones are we?  It is a fair and good question to ask.  Could we be the insane who don't even know it?  I would suggest regular times of extended prayer, stopping to fix your eyes on Truth and listen to your Father with a heart that is open to being right or wrong in any situation - such rational thought, comparing ourselves to Truth that is proven over thousands of years, is the only hope to know.
